Concept (Begriff)

Along with intuition, one of the two elements of human cognition. While an intuition represents an object directly, a concept is an indirect representation of objects. A concept holds of many representations, bringing them under one common representation (A68/B93). It represents an object insofar as the intuition which represents the object directly is brought under it. Objects are thought and therefore understood through concepts, which are the result of the spontaneity of the understanding. The linking of concept and intuition takes place in the act of judgment.
